Breeding conditions:
|
| This was the first year of research at this site, and thus there are no records from previous years with which to compare. It was noted as a phenologically early year with average densities of lemmings. Reproductive success of birds in this year was higher than in 1999, when lemming numbers were low. Hatching success in Sabine's Gulls was 64%.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| Research in 1998 was focussed on Sabine's Gulls, eiders and Herring Gulls. Incidental observations of other birds were also recorded, as well as surveys of breeding densities for all waterbirds.
